FREQUENTLY ASKED ORDERING QUESTIONS

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT STONE

Q: What are the benefits of using manufactured stone?
A: Manufactured stone – or veneer stone – can be installed for a fraction of the cost of natural stone. Because manufactured stone is made of lightweight material, it does not require a footing and can be used in many kinds of applications.

Q: Can I install stone myself?
A: In general, veneer stone can be installed by almost anyone. However, installation does require a fundamental understanding of stone masonry. Please review the installation procedures provided by the manufacturer of the product of your choice.

Q: Why were the stones so dark when I opened my box of stone?
A: Any concrete material needs a particular amount of time to cure; this time can vary if it does not have access to air. During the manufacturing process, the stone goes directly from the molds into the boxes, where they cure extremely slowly.

Q: Can these stones be used as hardscape? In other words, can people step on them? A: Manufactured stone has a tough time holding up to foot traffic. Use real stone products and pavers instead. Q: Can I hang stone on cement board or durarock? A: We recommend using mesh (metal lathe) for application. Q: How much square footage does one bag of mortar cover?
A: As a rule of thumb, you can generally figure about 11 square feet per bag.

Q: How are your box footages figured: with or without a grout joint? A: Most stone lines are figured with a 1/2 in. grout joint, with the exception being stones that are specifically designed for dry-stacked application. Keep in mind that your joint size can make up a pretty significant amount. Q: Can I return stone product if I ordered too much?
A: No. Please measure carefully before placing your order. Use our stone order worksheet to assist you with ordering the correct quantities for your jobsite or project. About ordering from Manufacturedstonesupply.com

HOW TO CALCULATE THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF STONE FOR YOUR PROJECT

Manufactured stone comes in two different components: flats and corners.
— Flats are installed onto the wall surface and are measured out by square feet.
— Corners, on the other hand, are installed to the outside corners of the wall and come in lineal feet (one linear foot of corner veneer equals approximately 0.67 square foot of flat veneer).

To calculate the total amount of stone you need to order for your project, follow these steps:
— Determine the total square footage of your project. Measure the overall square footage of the wall space you want to cover. Just multiply the length by the width.
— Subtract windows, doors or other openings. Calculate the square footage of the areas within this space that DO NOT need covered, like doors and windows, then subtract it from the project square footage.
— Find out the linear footage you need for corner pieces. Measure the linear feet of all the outside corner areas to be covered.
— Determine the square footage of flat pieces you need. Multiply the linear footage of corner pieces you need by .67 (one linear foot of corner veneer will cover approximately 0.67 square foot of flat veneer). Then, subtract this corner square footage from the total project square footage. This will give you the square footage of flat veneer required. Keep in Mind: It’s good to have an extra quantity of flats, especially for cutting and trimming.
